This plant was developed over 18 years and is now the most modern facility

China Plant
Quarries were developed in China from 1980 and emphasis was placed on:
- Underground mining to obtain hard, top-quality material;
- non use of explosives which induce stress cracks in the rock
- continually developing
equipment to machine the back of slates for even-thickness to allow
thinsetting.
(Slate splits at different thicknesses so, previously, could only be set in mortar.)
