Buyer
Beware!
A
special note to Architects and Designers
on important projects
Since 1978 American
Slate Company has identified specific Natural Stone products, mainly SLATE
and QUARTZITE, from defined mining sources with our own special
names, in a worldwide quest for new and unique stone products. ASC monitors
the quarrying, processing and inspection in order to ensure the best quality
of product. Some stone importers over the years have been adopting or
referring to these same names, regardless of the fact that they are trademarks,
¨ or TM, of American Slate Company.
They choose to infringe on these rights, in order to gain the marketing
advantage of being perceived as identical to the established product names.
They imply that what they supply are stone products from the same mining
source and of the same quality as those supplied by ASC. This is
not true.
Beware, because
in many cases the stones they offer are not from related sources or are
of quite different and questionable quality. In fact, in many cases they
have little or no idea of the source of many shipments. Shipments are
purchased through agents at low prices without inspection, who buy stone
products mined from surface layers, which either is the inferior shist
or stone weatherworn over centuries which is of unacceptable quality.
This can seriously damage your project. Some are offered at lower prices,
remember the old adage that "you get what you pay for". Buyer
beware, on your project you may buy somewhat cheaper, but buying a
product without knowledge and quality inspection is like taking a leap
into a black abyss. It could spoil the rest of your day, or the project.
